Tell Us Your Love Story
How did you meet?
My husband Walter and I met through his best friend/fraternity brother. His best friend and I grew up together. One weekend I attended a homecoming football game at my husband’s alma-mater, Alabama A&M University. His friend introduced us and we talked briefly but lost touch. Years later, we met again and became friends and then dated. The rest became our history.
How did he put a ring on it?
In November of 2017, Walter planned a weekend get-away to Memphis, TN. I thought we were just going to hang out. That weekend we went to the Memphis Grizzilies basketball game, visited a couple of historic sites and enjoyed evenings of fine dining. On sunday night, we were back at our hotel preparing to leave for home. Walter began complaining that his leg was hurting from all the walking we had done over the weekend. He said he needed me to help him stretch. I then got into position to help him. As he was getting on the floor, he got down on one knee instead and proposed, asking me to be his wife. He had tricked me! I was so very very surprised!! I gathered my composure and of course… “I SAID YES!!!”
What was your wedding theme & style?Elegance & Glam.
What were you most nervous or excited about?
I was mostly nervous right before I walked down the aisle. It hit me that there were over 300 people including the Love of my life were waiting for me to come down the aisle. I was most excited about seeing the look on Walter’s face, when he saw me in my wedding gown.
Now, the most important part - the Dress!
Tell us about your dress?
I wore the beautiful and stunning “Charlize” dress. I looked at and tried on what felt like a million dresses at different bridal shops, and none of them spoke to my spirit. I started to feel like I would never find anything I just really, really loved. One day, I decided to stop by a local bridal boutique while on my lunch break from work. I browsed the bridal salon for a few minutes, and there it was this gorgeous dress, unlike anything I had seen, with the most stunning train. I tried it on, and immediately fell in love. When I saw myself in the mirror, I cried as I had finally got the feeling I was looking for. Every detail of the dress really spoke to me. When my bridal consultant told me that it was Randy Fenoli, that made it even more special. I love SYTTD! I called my mom to come take a look at it, and she loved it as well. All the bridal consultants in the salon started to gather around as I was standing on the platform outside of the dressing room, everyone was mesmerized.
Where did you find it? Bella’s Bridal in Hoover, Al
What was your experience like?
I had a wonderful bridal consultant. She was very helpful and knowledgeable. She guided me through the whole process. From the time I found my dress, to the alterations, and last try on before my wedding day, everything went smoothly.
What was your most memorable moment from your day?
Our sparklers send off at the end of the night. It was memorable to me because we were surrounded by family and friends that love us and were genuinely happy for us. To me that moment represented being surrounded by love & light.
What does marriage mean to you?
Marriage to me means going on a life long journey with your best friend. It is a life-long commitment and covenant to love, serve and honor your spouse. It means accepting one another for who you are, while helping each other grow. It means loving each other unconditionally, through good and bad times.
Anything words of wisdom you can pass onto future brides & grooms?
I would say to just relax and breathe on your wedding day, and keep in mind that you are surrounded by those that love and care about you. Enjoy every moment because it goes by so fast. Also, it is ok if everything doesn’t go as planned, your guest will never notice.
